about

BassKase is the nom de guerre of producer/bassist Curtis Ruptash. "Was It Toronto?" is a four-track EP that blends live performance, found sound and studio-as-instrument sonic confectionary. The songs range from the downtempo and ambient vibes of the title track, Was It Toronto?, and Calling Angels Through Dark Clouds to the muscular beats and pulsing keys of The Eagle and Elevator Music.

These tracks build on his recording history with Chicago-based dub disrupters/audio manipulators Peabody & Sherman, who released around 20 titles between 2002 and 2019, and as co-leader in Guerilla Welfare, Canadian avant-funk dub collage artists released three albums between 1986 and 1991. A vinyl LP compilation of essential tracks was released as a in 2019 by Musique Plastique of Portland and distributed by Séance-Centre in Toronto.
