Rocker Bars is the fourth EP from BassKase who says “What to do during the pandemic lockdown? I went mining - for new ideas, unfinished tracks from the past and renewing musical relationships.”

“The title track, Rocker Bars, is a leftfield number that drops in a 60’s technical voiceover and features Canadian guitarist, Darryl Deslauriers. In the process of checking in on friends we’ve lost touch to see if they’re okay, we reconnected. He agreed to throw down and this track shows he’s still killing it.”

“Song For Barbara is a downtempo track started in 2010, when I met my wife, Barbara. I was happy with the bed tracks, but never quite found the right element to complete it. While mining audio hard drives, I rediscovered an improvisation that amazing Chicago-based singer/songwriter, Xoe Wise, did in my studio a few years back. A lovely ethereal vocal part that took the track over the top.”

“Ocar-ohno dubwise/ambient was track developed whilst hunkered in the studio, deep in lockdown. It incorporates a spoken word source I recorded in 1984 for the first Guerilla Welfare record. I found it on an old tape while cleaning up the studio.”

“Late Night Or Early Morning is a jazz-funk chiller built on outtakes of a session I did with drummer David Suycott (Stabbing Westward, XMarsX, Razorhouse, Marrow Thieves) a few years back. Dusted it off, built up the synth textures and added guitar by Darryl Deslauriers.”

BassKase is the nom de guerre of producer/bassist Curtis Ruptash, also known for his work in Guerilla Welfare, Peabody & Sherman, Marrow Thieves and others. Previous releases include Talk To Me (2020), Once Upon A Time In The Midwest (2019) and Was It Toronto? (2019)
